Winter Program

The Selects’ winter program is what we believe to be the most pivotal attribute to our success as an organization. Not only do we deliver second to none coaching for the athletes, but we present each individual with the opportunity to experience over 50 hours of on-field and off-field improvement. Our athletes are consistently exposed to real-time vigorous off-season football, something that very few Canadian players are able to experience.

Saskatchewan football prides itself on its level of competition, our small province is a breeding ground for top-tier athletes. It is evident that province-wide, our schools and clubs are flooded with great coaches who care deeply about the progression of their athletes and about Saskatchewan football. However, the climate of our nation is an unfortunate drawback to many athletes nation-wide. Our progress is stalled, while others continue to progress; but no longer. The Selects’ program prides itself in drawing the most passionate coaches from across the province, as well as professional and collegiate level coaches, to ensure that the winter months are not only spent ensuring no rust develops, but also ensure the progression and flourishing of all who step foot onto our turf.

Many athletes, throughout their football careers, have grown to develop habits that have been ingrained into their play style or understanding of the game.  While many coaches do all that they can to ensure proper technique and football ideology is being taught to our players, the unfortunate reality is that, due to the excessive number of players and a smaller number of coaches, poor habits sometimes form and go unnoticed. The Selects’ organization realizes how pivotal it is to set a proper technical foundation within every player in order to maximize his or her success further down the line in their football career. Not only do we provide top-tier coaching who teach collegiate and professional level techniques, but we also ensure a low player to coach ratio, adding multiple extra sets of eyes to ensure no bad habits go unnoticed, and are dealt with.

Off Field

The importance of constant progression is something we hold in a very high regard in the Selects’ organization. Throughout our winter months, we understand the importance of capitalizing on the time available to nurture and mould the athletes to become the best versions of themselves that they can be. From speeches to nutritional seminars to strength and conditioning advice, our education is a constant progression that begins immediately upon entering our doors in November and does not stop until the athlete has left us in February.

Film study is an immensely important foundation one must build on in order to ensure maximum comprehension of the game. It is not enough to simply stare at the individual and grade whether or not the right thing was done. In order to be successful, the athlete must understand the complex multi-layered ideology that governs our game. The Selects’ program begins with athletes from a very young age, reinforcing proper habits to ensure that athletes will have an amazing foundation of film comprehension going forward throughout their careers. From individual technical understanding to a more broad schematic and ideological concepts, we pride ourselves in delivering the best coaching in the film room, just as we do on the field.
